Top Truck Challenge
General Rules:
Rig must be run as it was brung. You cannot change tires between events to different set because they might work better. Cannot have items on your rig that make it heavier for some events and take them off to be lighter for others (batteries are the only exception to this both size and voltage). If you think you need different tires, then they must be carried on the rig during each event (eg. two paddle tires carried as spares except for the mud pit, but then your other tires have to become the spares). You can use any of the included features of your rig (unless otherwise stated in the event rules) whenever you want on each event (eg. use 4ws to get traction in the truck pull). Repairs can be done in between events. If you break on course, you’re done with that event. Fix it in time for the next event. You can replace with equivalent or upgraded part you have in your tool kit or from fellow competitor (again, you cannot change parts just for a particular event, only upon failure).
Tires must be 6” or less .
Prefer no “comp” tires like rupture or rover/sedona - keep it scale if possible
Rim size is not limited - 1.55, 1.7, 1.9, 2.2, 2.6 all allowed as long as you meet the tire size requirement
Scale truck or buggy body/cage - Truggies allowed - full tube buggies allowed
Center transmission with driven axles - MOA allowed only if organizers approve
Multiaxle rigs allowed (4wd, 6wd, 8wd, etc)
4WS, Dig, and selectable OD allowed
2 Speed, locking/unlocking diffs allowed
Waterproof highly recommended
Winch highly recommended (1, 2 or how many you want) - be sure to have a land anchor too
Brushless waterproof system highly recommended - there are not class differences between brushed and brushless rigs
15 Drivers will be voted in at concourse.
The 5 events will be Sled Pull, Mud Pit, Mini Rubicon , Tank Trap and Hill Climb
Sled Pull/ Pull a weighted rig/trailer up a hill (also can use a pulling sled if available). Winching is only allowed as a suck down winch for the axle(s). Judge will call you done if you are no longer making progress or tearing up the track. If you drive OB your run is done and progress is marked. Whoever makes a full pull the fastest or the farthest the fastest is the winner.
Mud Pit/ Good ole tried and true mud pit. No winching. Reversing allowed, but if you cease to make progress the judge will call you done and progress is marked. You cannot go out of bounds. Whoever makes it through the fastest or the farthest the fastest is the winner.
Mini Rubicon /should be similar to about a 5 gate RC crawler comp course. Rocks and obstacles to replicate the Rubicon. Winching is allowed. If you turtle or no longer make progress, progress is marked and your run is done. No gate penalties if they are used, as they should be just for course direction. Whoever makes it through the fastest or the farthest the fastest is the winner.
Hill Climb/Pretty simple. Who gets to the top the fastest wins. Hill may be a straight shot or include side hills or holes to deal with. No winching allowed (except for suck down). You can stop on course but you cannot reverse more than a truck length to try to keep going. If you are not making progress or tearing up the track, judge will call you done and mark progress.
Tank Trap / The big dog. This one is worth twice the points, so don’t screw up too bad. Mixture of hills, mud, rocks, obstacles, etc. Organizers should make this one hard enough that you need to either winch or get really lucky. No one should walk through the tank trap without a struggle. Whoever makes it through the fastest or the farthest the fastest is the winner.
